Repacement of Evaporator Expansion Value on 2004 LS430
The dealership quoted me 20 hour labor to replace evaporator expansion value which includes removal of dash and steering wheel. Also quoted value cost of $1,100. Can this be accurate?

According to Alldata Pro (Online Dealership Manual website) Here's what I found for that job:
Labor Information Skill Level B Mfg. Warranty 3.7 Standard 5.2
Expansion Valve Replace
Main Air Conditioner
Does Not Include: Refrigerant Recovery Or Evacuate & Recharge AC System.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, they're stating the time is roughly 5 hours and 20 minutes to change the Expansion Valve. I've never done one, so I can't say if this is accurate, but AllData is usually fairly spot-on, since it's an industry wide used system.

Apparently the dealership is adding additional time for this repair. 20 hours seems extremely excessive based on your information. I realize pulling the dash and steering wheel is a major task. A big thank you for your quick response. Discussion with the dealership is next step.

I'm a DIY'er and I often use yourmechanic.com to estimate how much money I would save for doing the repair myself. I believe they have contract mobile-mechanics that will do the repair at your home or office. I use the website to estimate repair cost only and have never hired them for any work. All that said, they estimated $739.79 for the repair including parts and recharge of refrigerant. This price was based on your CA location (I used the famous CA zip code 90310).
