Default T-belt ? On 2006 LS430 w/72k miles

Hey folks! I have got a question about timing belt replacement on this particular car. My mother bought this car new and has used the car gingerly. She is a slow driver for sure and drives a X5 as well. Hence the low miles. Most of the miles are highway travel to and from her home and condo in Florida. The car sometimes sits unused a couple of months at a time. The car has had 5 new batteries in 10 yrs. anyway on to my question. Should she have the all important timing belt service done now due to the age of the car? Also I read on here a transmission service is good til 100k correct? I reviewed her 60k mile paperwork from Lexus dealer and noticed it was not serviced then. I thank you guys in advanced. Joe

It's not only the mileage that is recommended but the years too. I think it's 10yr or 100k (somewhere in that ballpark) when t belt is recommended.

Transmission should be done too.

My 2006 LS430 has only 51,000 miles. I just changed the coolant but am curious about when to change the timing belt. It is driven 25 miles a day and parks in a heated garage year round. I was tempted to do it this year but am thinking of holding off until it hits 11 or 12 years old. Thoughts?

You lucky guy! What a great car to get from the family. Personally if it were my Mom's car I was getting I would leave everything as it is presently. Regardless of recommendations, the LS430 timing belt is beyond robust. Nothing to worry about there. Same to say about the "rock crusher" trans. Yes to engine Oil and filter changes and anything that happens to fail. Yes the batteries on my car have also been changed every 2-3 years and I've never touched the trans fluid (125,000 miles). You have a great low mileage car. I would only do what is needed and not worry about every detail. Goid luck!

Boc, Good point i been on this forum well...too long my wifey says. Never really seen someone talk about a rebuild tranny. There have been a couple about shifting this or that but never really remember one being rebuilt or a reman put in. Have ya ever really heard about one using an unordinary amount of oil? Since I got new tires I am really happy with this old boy at 140k. Its got a scrap here and there but.

Iff yur gonna keep it and it needs new radiater fluid see if ya can get just the belt and pump done for 700 bucks from a yota garage like I have done is an idea

I think LS430 maintenance manual says 90k miles or 7 years on timing belt replacement for the LS430. My LS430 is an 06 with 84k miles on it and I plan on getting the TB replaced within the next 3-6 months.

. From many posts on this forum, owners that have changed their belts between 90-120,000 miles claim upon looking at the original belt it showed nearly no wear. I've never read a post of a destroyed engine due to a failed timing belt. The 90k recommendation is just that but for peace of mind I would take care of it too. An acquaintance of mine that ran a service dept at Lexus was driving an 01 LS430 with 146,000 miles and the original timing belt!

I got my Tbelt and water pump done a few weeks ago with a new to me LS430 at only 63k miles on the odometer. I did it for peace of mind as I did not want to risk it. The way that I had seen it was that mileage wise it may not be due yet but time wise it was. It is a rubber belt that will stretch over time. Plus it is not something that you can inspect without tearing into it too much. So that is what made me get it done and over with. Get it done then know that you are fine for years to come rather than have it in your mind that it is due time wise.

and thus we see the classic case of FUD fear uncertainty and doubt persist. Does anybody, anybody at all have any evidence of a belt failing at less than 130k miles regardless of time in service? anybody?

never heard of it myself. 150k sure, but not anything remotely close to 90k. It's not much different than changing your oil at 3k...all the evidence says its simply not necessary.

i would replace it (and may as well do water pump while there) just so i could sleep better at night. if it goes it can do some expensive damage to the engine. you're obviously way under the mileage, but over on the age recommendation for changing it. you never know how it holds up in heat, etc. over 10-11 years. i would just do it and know you've got nothing to worry about until you hit 180k. you can take it to a toyota service dept - have been taking mine there for years and been very happy.

Our 2005 now has 100,000 miles. I'm going to change the timing belt soon, but I'm not worried.

The belt will more than likely be in decent shape. I bet the water pump will show some seepage though.

. Although not recommended I've read posts of owners well over 100,000 miles with original water pumps. I happen to be one. 125,000 miles and no leaks so far. I purchased my car with a replaced timing belt but original water pump. Not planning on replacing until leakage is seen. Luckily I do 99% city driving.
