Wrong octane..

Sup fellas! So I was coming home from work tonight and I stopped at a gas station. Put $30 on my pump and started, $5 (around 2 gallons) in and I realized I was putting in 87 octane gas :egads: I stopped there and put the remainder of the $25 (8 gallons) as 91 (premium) octane gas. Should I be worried about this? I know it says to only put 91 octane and higher rated gas into my Lexus. Is this going to cause any problems? (I have an 02 LS430) I am probably overreacting but I just want to be safe since I have never done this before.

You will be just fine

my dad has been putting 89 octane into his LS430 for 100k miles, car now has 160k on it and no issues

I usually do 93 but if I'm at half a tank and the spread between regular and premium is excessive (50c or more, which is absolutely unacceptable with current gas prices), I'll drop in regular and run ~90 for the remainder of that fill.

You wont have any issues.

You should be fine. You can add octane booster if it'll make you feel better

OH. MY. GOD. Tow it to the nearest Lexus dealer and have them replace the gas tank, fuel pump, fuel lines and injectors. Might even have them replace the gas cap as well.

He is in Hawaii..... Might have to ship the car to dealer on the West Coast to get all that done....

There are a few lexus owners that put nothing but 87 octane in the gas tank. I will only put 93 octane when I use my discount points at the nearby grocery store gas station. Other than that I put 87 octane from Shell.

The computer in the LS430 will make appropriate adjustments to engine timing if necessary based on feedback from the engine and exhaust sensors so that it will run just fine on US 87 octane gasoline. As others have posted many always run 87 octane gas in their LS430.

Over the years I mostly use 91 octane for my 06 LS430 but periodically have used only 87 octane on road trips with no discernible change to either engine performance or gas mileage.

Actually, 87 Octane contains more BTU's, and Ethanol free 87 contains the most, of course. I won't run straight 87 in my 460, but if my blend ends up around 89.5-90 it should be fine.
