Default 04 LS430 Seatbelt red light

About a year ago, this warning light in the dash came on. Dealer says that its ok; said that the car has over 200k miles and that the seat is squished down cause I am a big guy. Dealer DID see the light go off briefly while it was driven by test staff but it does not turn off anymore at all. Dealer said that parts for the seat sensor are $1,200 alone and are not returnable if problem is not fixed.

If it would work, I would even buy a used driver's seat. They suggested I do nothing and that the car is safe. I am not secure in this. I would love to hear some suggestions. Please help!

And how can we change thread title to say Airbag instead of Seatbelt?

Wow..what a scamming dealer you have! They diagnose the problem...tell you to buy the parts..and if they are wrong, tough luck for you??

Time for a new dealer.

I believe that's an airbag sensor going haywire. Weird it hasn't punched out the bag.

Was the car ever in an accident?

Yes. I hit a deer 2x in 3 years on the front but no warning lights or air bag activated.

There are nearly 70 DTC's associated with the SRS red light. Did the dealer pull a DTC from your car before suggesting the $1,200 seat sensor replacement? If so, it's likely B1650.

Please note that there are 4 types of DTC's:
B = Body (including A/C and airbag)
C - Chassis (including ABS)
P = Powertrain (engine and transmission/gearbox)
U = User Network (including wiring Bus / UART)

Consumer DTC readers are typically designed to read only the "P" DTC's. My neighborhood AutoZone has a high-end DTC reader that can read "B" DTC's (at no charge), so give them a try.

Attached is a listing of all SRS-related "B" DTC's, and troubleshooting procedures for B1650. Let me know what DTC you get from the car and I'll try to get you the troubleshooting procedures for it.

Default Cannot find a code reader....

I have called all over Chicago land and all I find are the code readers for the check engine light. Auto zone, Pep Boys, etc do not have the reader for the kind of codes we need to look for here. Any ideas out there on where I am likely to find the right reader besides Lexus?

Its an old thread- but Im in chicago area and oreilly has a bosch 1300 that reads codes on srs and abs. Autozone has it too, but they dont reveal it unless you push and then its in a big black box instead of the pos code reader they offer. Tell them its to read suspension and not to erase emmissions.

The Bosch 1300 does not seem to be available anymore. No price for it anywhere. I’ve been considering the Zurich ZR11 for my LS430 but I don’t believe the live data includes coolant temp which I need for my Jaguar. The Zurich is available at Harbor Freight which does take returns just In case it doesn’t work for you. Most retailers will not take back OBD2 scanners. I checked.
