90,000 maintenance
My car is currently at 92,000 miles. I have scheduled a service call next week with our very reliable mechanic to replace the timing belt the water pump and, apparently I need the brakes replaced and tires rotatated $1600. Based on the quote I received from Lexus, this seems reasonable.
My husband passed away recently and since he took care of all these things I'm in a quandry as to whether this work should actually be done. Both our friends have the LS 430, 2006, as do I. Mileage on theirs is 160,000 & 120,000 neither replaced timing belt but did replace pump.
Would appreciate some advice as I am a novice here.
Thank you very much

I would go ahead and have it done so you have peace of mind for the next 100k miles. The failure of the belt or associated parts can cause catastrophic engine damage.

Condolences on your husbands passing. I agree that you should have the work done if you trust the mechanic. It's definitely called out as a maintenance item in your service schedule at about this mileage.

The timing belts are not known to break but I agree that if it is in your financial means to go ahead and do the service I would do it. The price is decent not great. $1200 in my opinion would be a more fair price.
Ask your mechanic to use the OEM Aisin timing belt / water pump kit. They can be had on Amazon for less then $200.
OEM kit is $180
Labor should be about $600
Brakes about be $200 - $300
If you really want to save money buy the parts yourself and pay for labor only. We can help you with this if you desire.
Your friends are pushing their luck. Better to be safe then sorry. My condolences as well.

Timing Belt!
I would have it done and over with the car has many of miles left on it and just for the age of the vehicle. Buy the entire timing belt kit not just the water pump and timing belt. Trust me pullys do go bad with age.

Thank you for all your input, I very much appreciate the advice you have given me.
I have decided to go ahead and keep my appointment on Wednesday and get the work done.
I'd rather be safe than sorry and I hope to keep my car for the long haul.
Thanks for your condolences as well, it's nice to know I can look for advice on a forum I trust.
Best to you all

Sorry for your loss. My LS430 is actually going in on monday for its first timing belt at 228,000KM's. I really should not have left it for this long, as others said it can cause catastrophic damage to your motor if these parts fail. Plus, if you're looking to keep it for the long haul this is certainly a good idea.

Like others here have said, you need all other idlers/ pulleys or the bearings replaced at the same time the belt is, the reason the water pump is replaced is because it has a bearing that can go bad, and same with the other pulleys that the timing belt runs on and turns. If one of them goes bad that will break or derail the timing belt and the engine will be ruined. It shouldn't need seals at that mileage but they should be checked for leakage.
I'm surprised the dealer would have been more, maybe for the brakes. But I had a dealer quote a timing belt for less than any local independent shop wanted, and Lexus gave a loaner car too boot. If the mechanic does not deal with Lexus a lot the dealer would probably be the better bet for the T belt, and the mechanic for the brakes.
At least Lexus will use the proper parts and antifreeze etc.

come back again djs123..you'll always find a range of reasonable opinions on this board, promptly given too. We are especially happy to help out the fairer sex, as they seem to get taken advantage of too often.

Have them do the pump, tensioner, belt, idler pulley as well. It'll be a couple hundred more to do the tensioner and idler pulley, but it is worth it.
