Altenator died. Replacement options?
Hello everyone.
Yesterday my car died on the way to the shop to change rear brake pads. Tow truck and all, mechanich called awhile later and said the altenator went. That got me pissed: I replaced an altenator last summer for a Denso remanufactured unit. Exactly a year and a half the replacement lasted, with a year warranty on the part. How convenient huh?
Is there any other replacement altenators I should be looking at?

Reconditioned is a different process from re-manufactured. You may want to verify exactly what was done when your alternator was repaired.
Finally, after 3 days in the shop I picked up my LS.
What was done:
Alternator. Denso remanufactured unit.
Oil Pressure sensor - old one was leaking.
One rear right O2 sensor. Denso OEM.
Right catalytic converter had a crack in it. Fixed by welding.
Extenctions were added to rear O2 sensors.
New Rear brakes: rotors, pads and a break wear sensor. Duralast Gold from local Autozone. Decided to give them a try plus warranty is good.
Total cost: $900 including labour.
I made a mistake calling an old alternator reconditioned, it's a Denso Remanufactured unit. Mechanic said it's the first time someone is back with a failed denso alternator.

Alright, that's pretty obvious, a test that confirms that alternator is still not dead.
I imagine if it's dead you'll notice pretty soon anyway.

I thought there was some sophisticated way of testing that would predict how soon the alternator is gonna die, maybe you could look at the alternator output with oscilloscope or something to see when it's beginning to get weaker...
