The car to me seemed to be driving just fine. But I too panicked and took it into the dealership to check what it meant. I was hoping it had something to do with a recent recall they completed 2 weeks prior on my car. But no... turns out it is a transmission error. The solenoid cylinder is in the stuck position and the transmission is not performing well. Ughhhhh. Lexus quoted me $4950 tax included for a re-manufactured transmission. I took it to my mechanic who only uses lexus parts and that I trust.. and am paying not much less.. $4700 but with a 2 1/2 yr warranty. I have about 120K miles on the car. Took it in Monday .... hoping to pick it up later today (Thursday). I absolutely love my Lexus but the maintenance / repairs are so costly.
This is the 2001 - 2006 LS430 forum. Your vehicle, a 2007 GS350, has a completely different engine and transmission.

Default Same experience w/2001 LS430

Had identical happen to me last weekend. In five minutes I has smoke coming from the hood. The engine was completely fried, cannot repair. The radiator had cracked completely across the top and bleed to death. The temperature gauge does not read fluid temperature when the fluid is gone. CHECK YOUR RADIATOR!

Doesn't it have a low coolant light?

There is no reason why the coolant guage would not warn you if you are overheating the engine. Not sure if there is a light. It's good to check the radiator but frying your engine is hardly common. When is the last time any of you ever heard of this happening? Many drivers do not pay attention to the instrument cluster. This is common. Especially woman are known to not know to monitor gauges.

I had an 02 or maybe an AF sensor fail and it threw so many codes my local independent shop thought I might have to take it to the dealer. This included VSC, Trac, CEL and other lights coming on. Since one of the codes was for the sensor he offered we should replace that first and see what happened. After replacing the one offending sensor and resetting the error codes everybody was happy. I was surprised that the one sensor would throw so many apparently unrelated codes but there you have it.
As a side note he routed the wire in a way that apparently caused the new sensor wire to fail requiring another replacement. He steps right up and did it gratis. Excellent since he certainly could have charged me another $200 and I would have been none the wiser. After reading this adventure I'm glad I didn't try to do it. Yikes!

Default Temp gage let me down

3500 hours in tactical fighters, Trust me, I watch the gages. The temp. gage never moved off the second from the bottom line. Lexus said if the radiator loses all coolant then the gage does not provide info. I had major repairs done at Lexus two months prior including a new water pump. Snake Bit

P0031 is related to Bank 1 Sensor 1 Heater Oxygen Sensor (HO2S). This DTC is based on what's called "1 Trip Detection Logic", which means that you will get the error code after 1 fault. Very often, the single fault is just a false-alarm and never occur again for years. The only way to find out is to clear the DTC and see if it returns.

Hey rkw77080, Thanks for your quick reply. How do you clear the DTC? I tried the procedure posted by FYOUNES/PilotSmith but the error didn't clear out. Thanks again!

You will need an OBDII scanner to erase a specific DTC. Alternatively, you can disconnect the negative battery cable for a minute or so to clear all DTC in memory.

I got it cleared by this
scanner scanner
but after 3 miles of driving around the error reappeared.Worse case scenario is to replace the sensor by my mechanic,i don't think i'm capable of changing it.

If the same DTC is logged within a few miles of driving, then the error is probably real.
