Back on topic... I installed my Tom's Super Ram II drop in filter. It's slightly louder from 4k & up but still a muffled induction sound. Throttle response is seemingly better but over all you won't hear it in daily driving. Time for the loud pipes...

Where did you order your toms filter from? do you have a part number? been looking to do a toms or blitz filter.

In the cars I've had, I've put a intake on a few of them, and I've never had one where I actually felt added power. Sure they can sound different, but in all cases I've always seemed to lose power. I had a short ram intake on a 02 maxima which did sound very good though with that 3.5L engine. If you are going for sound you may be better off removing a resonator or changing the exhaust, since I've seen some that sound very good. I've owned really loud cars, but personally owning this car the most I enjoy about it is how quiet it is.

Without a tune you will almost always loose low end torque and gain maybe, and I really emphasize maybe, a tiny bit of high rpm horse power. Loosing the low rpm torque is not particularly favorable to me.

Found the link I wanted to post earlier about benefiting from cutting holes in the factory air box. 3.66HP & 5.78TQ dyno'd doesn't sound bad...

Post 52 from SlvBullet

Found a pic of the bottom side of the Tom's Carbon scoop. They engineered a larger ram air opening and omitted the 4 chambers on the factory scoop. Someone needs to copy and sell this cheaper than $6-700

Default air intake

cutting holes into the factory box?
The manufacturer goes to great length to get cool air in. By drilling holes into the intake box you introduce hot air from the underhood area. It actually diminishes the performance - but it makes more noise

Did you actually read the link or anything on these cars/engines before your post here ? So far it's noob threads about worrying about winter driving and a one about ripping out wood trim....

Lexus goes through the trouble to keep things quiet. This tread is about defeating that.

Hahaha

I hear you King. I happen to be (almost) one of those 'old geezers'. Well, maybe not. I'm 44. But I definitely am past 'that stage' in my life. At least for daily driving, anyway. One day I'll restore and mod my SC400 to blow the doors off a stock Vette. But until then, I bought my LS to enjoy being enveloped in the serenity of silence. And though I absolutely LOVE the look of a slammed 430 ridin' on 20"blades, I'd never do it myself because I value a soft, comfy ride more than I do the envious stares my sled would garner as a result. (When you have two rambunctious, loud elementary school-aged boys, you QUICKLY learn the absolute priceless value of pure silence)

The thing is, however, the 'old geezers' win this battle by default - every time. Simply put, the LS430 was never designed for the tuner crowd. So you've gotta expect (and pretty much, accept) blowback when modding it for purposes that go way left-field of it's intended niche.
