'04 keyless start not working?

I finally picked up my friend's LS about 30 minutes ago and one of the things he said is that all of a sudden the keyless start isn't working. The remote will lock/unlock the doors and open the trunk but you have to actually stick the key fob in the ignition like a regular key in order to start it. I can't just turn it with key fob in your pocket. I guess it's possible to be a battery but you would think the doors and trunk wouldn't work if it was a battery.

Anyone seen this issue? Do you think it's the actual key fob or some kind of ignition module? I'm going to be looking to get another key fob because he only has the one so I need a spare anyway.

There is a smart key on / off button down close the gas pedal. Make sure it is not turned off. It is next to the alarm volume control. It can also be programming of the key itself.

Awesome! That was it. He had the car detailed today and they must have pushed the button.

Now I just need to figure out what the heck the knob next to that button does. I've turned it both directions and don't see that it changed anything.

Thanks for the tip!

The knob controls the beep volume that comes from the car, while locking unlocking.
