No More Primacy MX4V's
 

I'm bummed:sad: The previous owner of my '05 got a flat on her MXV4's and decided to only replace 2 of them. They only have about 1000 miles on the new tires and about 35K on her old ones. I purchase the car and decide to go and shell out the extra dough and make my set match by purchasing 2 more MXV4;s.. I call my local Michelin dealer and he gets me 2 more Primacy MXM4's. It is a different tire but he said he could no longer get the MXV4's in my size.....245-45-18. If the original owner had not opted for the 18 inch upgrade and had stayed with the 17 inch wheel. I'dl be golden as the MXV4 is still made in the 17 inch wheel. Not the 18 inch size.

Just thought I'd share with you 18 inchers so you can be making future plans :)

Yes, I believe the MXV4 is being discontinued as a model completely. It's just the larger sizes went first. I just got a pair of 4 x 16" from Costco last month for a little less than $600 installed with discount. Not bad and will last me easily 6 years, so I'm set for a while.

Wow, do I have some great news (well, at least for me :D)

Ok, I just replaced 2 of my worn out MXV4's but could only get MXM4's as replacements. So now I have 2 MXV4's and 2 MXM4's on my car. I was thinking and it occurred to me to call Michelin Corp and explain my plight to see if they could find 2 matching MXV4's so I would have a matching set. They searched and came up with none in the US. Oh, but it gets better...

She said to take my LS to a certified Michelin dealer and have them do an inspection and to call them back referencing my cell number as that would be my "case number." Got my inspection done yesterday and I'm getting 2 new MXM4's for 35%!!!! Lets do a calculation...$230 times 35% equals $80 times 2 equals $160 for two brand new MXM4's

I'm definitely a big Michelin fan, they usually go out of their way.

They replaced a tire for me just recently that had a screw in the sidewall. I hadn't purchased any sort of road hazard warranty either, I didn't even ask, they just prorated it out so a new tire was like $35 or something.

At least in my experience, the "cheaper" brands seem to cost me more money than just buying a Michelin. They usually get the mileage they are rated for.

Shame the MX series is getting cancelled, I was reading a Consumer Report and it rated it higher than the Michelin Defender in both road noise and comfort.

I happen to be one of the lucky ones who recently needed a replacement set of Primacy MXV4 17s. They are still around and may be for awhile. 18s are in short supply as are other sizes. If you have 17s and still want the Primacy, think about getting them while they are still available.

It's not necessarily a bad thing. The new Premiers offer better wet braking and a few other features. Just upgrade to the new generation.

Change happens to be part of life. Whether or not the Premiers are an improvement is still to be determined.

Has anyone tried tirerack.com ? They may not be listed on the site but if you call them, they know all sorts of ways to find had to get rubber, if you get someone who takes the time to look.

Thanks Lavrishevo. I did read that article when it first came out. What I find hard to deal with is paying premium dollars for 8/32nds of new tread on the premier versus 11/32nds on the Primacy as well as many other new tires. I don't keep tires past 3/32nds which doesn't leave me much treadwear life. . I've always been a fan of Michelin and find them to be a premium tire.

I went into my Discount Tire store where I have purchased tires for the last 20 years for a rotation on my MXV4's that had about 40K on them. I had a buddy with me and I noticed the salesman walking around the car. I told my buddy, " Watch...he'll come in here and tell me that my tires are worn out." Sure enough, he came in and started to give me the pitch. I said "I know how many 32nds I have on my tires. I have a depth gauge in my glove compartment". He cut right to the chase and offered me a new set of Premier 225x55x17's for my 2002 LS-430 for $570 out the door. I fell off my chair and said "I'll take them!" They may have less rubber but they are warranted for 60K so who cares? They are exceptionally smooth and seem to be wearing just like the MX's...and I saved $300 over the price of a new set.
