Maybe mechanic drink too much Soju and think he is a parts replacer.. First thing, like already mentioned, mechanic should have run a scanner testing for DTC's as this fault triggers the CEL. Also, he should have performed a spark test on plugs and coil packs prior to replacing if no misfiring codes were present or to isolate problem cylinder misfire.
Hopefully OCV will fix the problem...it's a 10-15 minute job

Looks just like the engine shake on my Hemi 5.7 that set for 1 year and the fuel went bad..Forgot to put fuel stabilizer in fuel tank.

Weird, indeed...

VTEC (Variable Timing and Lift Electronic Control) is a system developed by Honda. It is drastically different than the Toyota VVT-i (variable valve timing with intelligence) used on the LS430.

Perhaps the "scanner report" the technician presented was for another car.

Good eye but basically same thing..
I have a Honda Acura with VTC and LS430 with VVT... Different nomenclatures, similar functioning systems. Perhaps mechanic is more familiar with Hondas terminology than Toyotas.

EDIT: I stand corrected," Basically same thing" is a false statement in terms of operation.. Different technologies, however both have to do with timing of the valves.
Just proves I'm not a mechanic...lol

Read this thread and replace BOTH OCV's. You'll be glad you did.

...and if you ever wondered what this VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence) is about, and how it relates to the OCV, check out Post #2 on the following link https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...ml#post8880322
