So I need to replace the hood insulator in my 06 UL, part number: 53341B. I looked on several websites like sewell or southatlanta and god, that piece is ridiculously expensive: around $300 - $400. I'm not sure why but I might have to pull the trigger if there's no 3rd party part. That said, anyone here know such a 3rd party for hood insulator? Thanks a lot.

Well, guess what, when I bought the car I didn't notice that it was not with the original hood insulator but with an insulation pad instead. I only focused on other things. Even the mechanic I brought the car to did not notice it (guess I won't come back to him anymore ).

 

yes why do u need to replace my one is spoiled since last summer and i never even think about changing it its all about how good u tace care of servicing the car and u l l never need to do anything with the hood other than just checking the water coolant

 

I would get one through a salvage yard, or buy some sort of aftermarket one and cut it to fit.

Something like Dynamat makes hood insulation that would probably do a better job than what came from the factory, people like them for Diesel trucks as it really cuts down the noise.

I just don't think I could justify $400 for a new OEM one, but that's just me.

 

problem is if the hood is good why would they sell the insulator. If it is smashed the insulator might be also, but I guess it is worth a try to call a slavage yard. I myself would stick with the OEM look thought dynamat is pretty good stuff. Good luck

 

Not just you, I also think that's too much for an insulator. The current "insulation" pad is too thick that it makes the hood not as tight as before. Hopefully this Dynamat is not that thick.


I also do not have too much hope for a salvage yard but I'll try. I just can't figured out why my car does not have the original insulator. The hood still looks original with all stickers.

Btw, what are all purposes of the hood insulator? I know it helps to cover some strings there ...

 

It's mainly sound insulation, and it can also sometimes surpress an engine fire. The tabs are made to melt and the "blanket" falls on the engine.

Also, I've heard long term exposure to the heat of the engine without some insulation can sometimes make the paint on the hood not last as long.
