I became a believer in lexus when my good friend bought a 2006 GS300 brand new. At 5K miles he did his first oil change. He did his second oil change at 45K miles. He also drove it through 3 feet deep water during hurricane Wilma and it STILL didn't break down. If that lexus stood up to his abuse then it could hold up to ANYONE! I am personally looking to sell my 430 and purchase the right 460. I like that sportier look and it hold 22's way better with the fender flare and body style. That's fact not opinion. But I do love the 430, I've had this car longer then any other car I've ever purchased.

Bob I do hear a very faint tick. Not as bad as the wife's 5.7L Sequoia but it's there.
They say that the new timing chains are as quite as the belts, that's impossible. That said I can only hear it if I am outside the car. In the cabin at idle I don't hear anything.
Loving the car. Getting 20 MPG around town and 26 on the highway at an average of 78 MPH.

That's good news. I wouldn't have cared if I couldn't have heard it inside the car, but it was very audible. I think the mechanical fuel pumps on some cars are just louder than on other cars. Seems to be hit or miss.

Default difference between 430 and 460

I recently bought an 2010 LS460 with only 15k on it. Beautiful car inside and out. I just sold my 2004 LS430 with 222k on it. The 2010 is not quite as quiet and does not ride quite as well as my 2004. I mentioned this to a Lexus salesman and he told me the 2004 and 2004 LS's were the best cars Lexus made and that i was right about the 2 cars. What's up with that?

I agree. It is a little disappointing but the LS460 is still the best rated luxury sedan by consumer reports. Only the Tesla S scored higher and not by much and that car is all electric.

What's up with that? Lexus screwed up to LS for people who loved the 430.

Pretty close to what the Lexus technician relayed to me. Said don't go north of 2006. He even hinted that the 400's would be preferable to the 460's and those are way up there in miles.

It's a trap!!!! Don't do it. Unless There Is Something you so dislike about the 430, there is no need to "upgrade" to the 460.

its so tempting , id LOVE to have a 460 L one some brushed face deep dish 22's with a body kit, but they have a fair share of issues.

Almost every 460 owner that came from the 430 has complaints.

They even have this issue of the dashes completely melting if u leave it parked in the sun ,,, very weird for a flagship car.

I've had this conversation at 6 different Lexus dealerships, and everyone I talked to said the 430 is the better automobile. The salespeople normally are more subtle about it, but the service guys usually have no issue saying without a doubt that the 430 is a better car.

When I traded my 2010 460L back in on a 430, I expected them to be surprised. Nobody was. It's been 7 months, and I haven't missed the 460L for even one second.

I had anticipated the move to a 460 when our 400 hit the 175-200K range. Same discussions with people who had the 400, 430 and 460. The preferences were mixed but the unanimous conclusion was the 430 was the last of the LS quality they had known. To them they say the LS is a 5-6 year car and sadly that is not my desired characteristic of a Toyota product. That's not to say these are -only- 5-6 years but the long term ease of minimal problems seems to have shifted with this generation.

Honestly, I'm saying this without even being bias, but the truth has to be told. The LS460 is a generation ahead over the LS430 in luxury and style.
Or may I say, the look of the LS430 has been outdated, that's what older fancy cars used to look like.

But if you look at the rest of the competitive cars, the S-Class, 7-Series, they have all transformed into this new long wheel base car(for the comfort of the riding passengers), to me it's a different car, whole new different style.

Saying that, and knowing that you want a car that will you drive off with business clients and try to impress, you're doing the right thing ditching the LS430 and getting the 460. Don't let people scare you from the 460, it might've had some issues in the beginning, but none the less it is the successor of our beautiful 430's.

Bottom line, if you want the looks, better technology, more modern car. Get the 460, you'll enjoy it, trust me.
Good luck to you.

tHeKiNg911 brings good points to the 460 discussion. As a client car, the image is also a characteristic that one has in selecting a car.

If your main objective is to impress clients, there are better cars to do that with than the LS460. The Germans rule in that category. Probably not a popular opinion around here, but it's the truth. But I can't find anything that gives me the combination of quality/luxury/comfort/reliability that the 430 gives me. If there was, I'd buy it tomorrow.

I agree, if you're going to psychologically impress a client, then go with a S or 7. If you're wanting to impress yourself then LS. I think 430 and 460 is a personal style taste. The 460 is superior mechanically/technology wise. For me, I just don't like the big Camry look of the 460.
