Default My "VSC" idiot light just came on. How serious?

It looks like I need a trip to the Lexus dealer with my 2004 LS 430. 84, 000 miles.
Anyone have experience with this trouble light? I am to expect real bad news? Help!
Any guidance for me?

Read the code. There'll be other suggestion here, like 'kick your tires' and 'turn your radio on and off', but it's all crap.

Go to autozone/pepboys and read the codes.

Yes, Autozone will read the code for free. Any garage can read and they should reset the code for free, depending on what the code is. It might never come on again or it might indicate something wrong.

Try disconnecting the battery for 30 secs usually the light will go off. Let us know what happens!

Don't do that. Ever. Really bad practice.

dealer determined it was a bad oxygen sensor. Replaced it. Cost about $500. Was covered mostly by my warranty. Thank goodness!

Worked for me, my light came on one time and I actually got the solution from my lexus dealership when my 96,94, and 99 had the same issue after driving through semi high water and it worked and solved the problem!! I agree it is bad practice I feel only if you have to do it every day, that's when you know it's serious, but my light has never came on again on either model ever since!! Ecu problems are still present in all cars let along lexus, sometimes they just misread things! Also I know a weak alternator can trigger this problem. I just don't want this cat wasting unnecessary money if he doesn't have too! I owned LS models all of them since they first came out in 89 and one thing is for sure, if it's a daily driver you will have random occurrences with the vsc trac light it's just common but if you have money to waste I'm pretty sure Lexus doesn't mind taking 300$ for the same answer!
