Default Key won't turn

I have a 2003 LS 430. Sometimes the key won't turn when trying to start the car. It's like it's the wrong key ( I know it's the right one). When it happens I have tried moving the steering wheel and the gear shift. After several tries it finally turns normally. Very annoying. Any suggestion from anyone would be appreciated.

That happens when the steering wheel is locked. It's normal. Jerk the steering wheel left to right while turning the ignition and it should free up.

If you're not using or don't have smartaccess and using a physical key, it could also be the key and key barrel are wearing down and not disengaging the ignition properly. I.have same issue with my 99 RX and it's not because of the wheel lock, it just needs playing with.

I agree, this doesn't sound like the "normal" steering lock. I think everyone knows about that by now.

It is NOT normal
Eventually - the steering lock mechanism (motor) will die and require replacement - I replaced mine

Jerking the steering wheel will require later on to change small little "rings" between bolts holding the steering column (I also had to change them as I was quite stubborn)..."rings" are not expensive nor difficult to change, but the steering lock mechanism motor is

I don't know even an indicative price in $US
