Default 02' LS430-can't get gear selector out of park! Can you help?

I have a 2002 LS430 with under 70K miles. On occasion, I can't get the gear selector to shift out of park into any other gear. It sticks.....and the engine is running fine and steering wheel will rotate just fine. Can anyone help?? Thanks, folks!

Are you on a hill when it happens?

Sounds like the brake light switch at the top of the brake pedal lever is starting to fail - you've got the classic symptom.

Is changing the brake light switch an easy repair?

It is if you are a contortionist and don't mind laying on your back in the driver side footwell.

Can it be lubricated with silicone or something?

Stick a screwdriver in that little slot next to the shifter.
My brother drove around for years with a ballpoint pen sticking out of a hole next to his 1998 Subaru Outback's shifter.

John339- "no" the car can be level and it seems to happen whenever it wants to. At first, it was once a month. Then once a week. Now ever day! I think Jim - 2000 LS400 has the answer. I'm in my 70's and love to tinker, but don't think I can do the "contortionist" thing anymore! The pennies trick sounds interesting, but not sure I can get to it?? Looks like "off to the dealer" I go!! Love all my Lexus, but hate going there! Thanks for all the help, guys.
