Replaced battery with Optima red-top
My Interstate brand battery died this weekend. I was determined to get an AGM battery (no acid to leak). Consumer Reports recommended Sears Platinum and Optima "red top". Neither one comes in size group "24F" required by 2002 LS430. I ended up buying the Optima because the store was open, and the nearest big Sears is 60 miles away. Optima recommends size group "34R" for this car. It does not fit perfectly. It has a plastic tray to space the battery higher to match the hold-down clamps. The terminals are further away from the edge of the battery, so I had to bend the hot (plus) cable terminal slightly. THEN, I had to add another spacer to prevent the hold-down studs from bottoming out on their threads. The factory plastic box that was covering the 24F battery will not fit, so it is removed. My new battery is secure now, but looks slightly cobbled - thus no pictures $190 at Autozone.
