2005 LS430 A/C cuts in and out
Yet another issue with this car. All of a sudden it'll stop cooling. I'll turn the a/c off and then back on and it'll start cooling again.
Any thoughts whether this will be an expensive repair?
Getting a little bit more frustrated everyday!

Are there too many possible options here to be the source of the problem which has resulted in the lack of responses? Trying to figure out if this is the first of many expensive repairs coming my way.

I'm sure it's just random things going wrong. Many people go for years and years without anything going wrong on these cars.
With that being said, I had a similar problem with my 01. The a/c would work for a bit and then wouldn't. It finally got to the point where it was never blowing cold air. I had the freon checked and everything was good. I took it to the dealer and they found it to be a faulty high pressure switch. The switch was telling the CPU that there was too much pressure and was not turning on the A/C as a safety precaution. Not sure if that's what is happening to you or not.

I think it was around $500 at a Toyota dealer. I got a free rental car though.
Have a tire store or auto parts store check to see if you are throwing any codes. That's how I found out what was wrong with mine.

Just bumping this up... I just had a 2004 LS430 that did the same thing, The A/C would intermittently work with little to no rhyme or reason.
I purchased a TIS Cable off eBay (Mini VCI 16 Pin OBD2 Diagnostic Cable for TOYOTA TIS Techstream) and I was able to find a random pressure switch code in the BCM.
These codes don't set a light so without this cable and the TIS Software (Google it) your blind. A $25 Denso switch off Amazon and a quick recharge I was back in business.
This isn't a normal DIY thing, Just so you know, contrary to many of the sensors found on GM and some other cars, there isn't a schrader valve under the sensor so it isn't plug and play.
You need the Toyota Scanner and the knowledge and equipment to recharge the system. If you have this or a friendly mechanic,,, A $25 Sensor and a recharge is a lot better than the prices I have heard quoted from the dealer.
