Default 60k Service and ordering parts online

Here's my understanding of what's due at around 60k:

1. Coolant
2. Brake fluid
3. Air filter
4. In Cabin Micro Filter
5. Seat air filter

Where do you guys purchase parts online? Mainly the three air filters: seat, in-cabin, and the engine air filter. I'm assuming these are pretty easy to replace DIY?

Thanks,

Sajjad

do the work yourself and save alot of cash.the coolant is a no brainer, brake fluid isnt hard either, air filter also easy.cabin air filter is cheap on line and the seat filters just take them out and give them a good vacumm and your done.find one of your friends that knows a little about cars. i use discountlexusparts.net..but there are others i use.look at the forum sponsers as they are very good to order from.and dont forget to replace you radiator cap!

I just ordered the cabin and engine air filters from Amazon - way cheaper for very good quality stuff.

http://www.amazon.com/Wix-46464-Air-...ar=1&carId=003

http://www.amazon.com/Wix-24893-Filt...ar=1&carId=003

I bought a Wix oil filter for my car at the local O'Reileys auto parts as price was same locally. Wix is one of the best built oil filters avail to consumers. Or you could just buy an oil filter from Toyota delaer, usually less than Lexus charges. Some people like Mobil 1 oil filters - they are expensive and no better than Wix but still worlds better than cheap junk like Fram or STP. I buy oil from Walmart - currently using Penzoil Platinum full synthetic.

Be aware that most oil filters avail at places like Walmart are complete junk. Easy to research oil filters - on utube there are sevral segments of folks taking apart 10 oil filter brands and comparing quality.

Like Jimbosr1 said just take out the seat filters and vacuum them no need to replace.

Using Mobil 1 and Toyota filter and changing every 5,000 miles is probably overkill in itself. Why would you want to try anything else?

Successfully cleaned the seat filters last night. Next step is the air filter and in cabin filter. Anyone have pics on how to do the in-cabin filter on an 05?

I don't have pics on cabin filter replace but its super easy 5 minute job. The only tool you need is a flashlight to illuminate interior of glove box area and air cleaner cover.

1. Empty the glove box
2. Take out the 2 part shelf/stand that is inside the glove box
3. Remove the black felt covered door at the back of the glove box
4. Reach in through rear of glove box (now that back door is removed) and remove the white plastic cover for the cabin air filter. It is clearly marked white plastic door apprx 2 inches by 8 inches. There ere two tabs that you need to depress to release the cover.
5. Slide out cabin air filter noting position and orientation of filter and replace with new filter. Slide it back in.
6. Replace air filter white plastic cover.
7. Replace rear door to glove box.
8. Replace glove box shelf unit.
9. Load glove box back up
10. done

btw - I replace the cabin filter once a year but also pull my filter out a couple times a year and just vacuum it especially when leaves are falling in autumn and then again right after spring pollen season. Easy to do and keeps the filter clean year round.

Wow. Much easier than I anticipated. Same procedure on our FX took me almost 2 hours as I had to detach the glove box in order to get access to the filter. How difficult is it to change your own brake fluid? And is it true the transmission fluid in the LSs don't ever need to be changed?

I am fairly handy and have replaced brake pads but I myself would let Lexus do a brake fluid flush on the LS..mostly because of the integrated ABS system...not something I want to mess up. But I am amateur at best, more talented folks may think its simple. 04+ models have sealed trans, no dipstick...supposed to be lifetime trans fluid. The problem is no one at Lexus or Toyota wants to define "lifetime" for thsi $6k transmission, so I will have mine drained and refilled every 50-60k or so.

I think I'll have my brake and trans fluid done at my next oil change. Couldn't hurt to do the trans fluid.

Replaced my in cabin air filter this evening. The Wix filter had an arrow pointing up...assuming this meant the arrow should point up? Dumb question, I know, but the filter I pulled out had the arrow pointed downwards, so I was a little confused.

The arrow should point up, as indicated in the owner's manual of the car.
On some filters the text "UP" is printed next to the arrow.
