Default 2002 LS 430 Hood won't latch completely

I need help on how to keep the hood closed shut. To day I opened the hood to check the battery. When I tried to close it, it just does not latch shut completely. Stays partially open at the second latch. The hood opener inside is staying down. It appears some spring is loose or cable broke? Are there any springs in this? I tried to pull the cable in side at the lever, but does not appear shot? Any immediate help/ tip /suggestions are greatly appreciated.

thanks

Are you saying the latch inside to open the hood is stuck (spring broken) or not stuck? Dumb question, but are you gingerly pushing the hood closed? I usually just let it drop from about 6" - 1' off and it shuts tight.

Wish the car had auto hood closer/catch like the trunk does.

I had to have my hood release cable replaced - evidently this is a known issue for 430s - so that is more than likely your issue. It gets water in it, then rusts and binds. One of the few issues with the car.

I have the same issue, havent fixed it yet. But im convinced its the latch, or specifically a spring. I get the hood to close by fiddling in the latch assembly witha tiny screwdriver and it clicks then the hood will lock shut.

I think if it was the cable then fiddling in the latch couldnt have any effect. Id almost bet that some dealers lied about the service performed. The cable replacement takes quite a bit more effort unless youve done it before and have a procedure down.

Remember WD-40 isn't a lubricant, it is a water displacement solution.
Good for cleaning but then use a real lube like oil or grease whatever is called for.
