Default Smart Access Fob Question

Can a new smart access master fob be programmed ( and the hard key cut) by a Lexus dealer without the car being present? Is the data for this available from VIN# and Lexus records?

This question comes up because the lexus dealer that recently sold me an 06 430 assured me that it came with "all the keys". Turns out that it only has one master and one valet fob.

I guess I can do without the "flat keys" that are also originally provided but I do want the second master fob. The dealer is about 180 miles from where I live so it would entail a trip to get an additonal master fob and have it programmed. Dealer managed to "find" the second master fob and sent it to me but it's not the right one for the car.

I declined CPO on this car but was thinking that CPO provided for a complete set of keys. As I now read thru the CPO provisions it states "one master and one valet fob" - exactly what I got with the non-CPO deal.

I'm going to press the dealer to provide a "complete set" as the salesperson said, but I may not prevail.

Sewell Lexus will cut your key with the VIN# proof of ownership but you would need to program it yourself. There are a few tutorials/DIYs on this forum that show you how to do it.

I did what Hilo explained. Took me a few tries to program because you have to be exact on the sequence you follow (turning keys 3x then opening closing doors then tapping on brake etc) but I got it about 5 times in.

Will that programming sequence work on 04-06 models as well?

Sorry. My comment was generic. I can't even remember the exact sequence but it did involve the doors, brakes, and key on, key off. I did find the instructions online. If I see them I'll post a link.

Here's the link I followed.

Sorry but it does not specify the year. It did work on my 2001 for what that's worth.

PS. Sewell Lexus seem like good guys. I would guess they could confirm these instructions work for your year or even give you instructions. They do sell the keys via mail order and I recall getting instructions from them for my Nav update.

you cannot program a 04-06 smart key yourself.you need to have the program and run it through your cars computer.
