Default How to check trans fluid - 02LS

I would like to check the transmission fluid on my '02 LS w/ 53k. I can't find a dipstick or a procedure in the owners manual. After 7 years and almost 200k of joyful LS400 ownership, I would like to see the distinctive red shade of T-IV in my LS430. If I don't see it, I will quickly change the fluid using the method illustrated on this forum. Thanks in advance.

on your year with the 5 speed trans, there should be a dipstick on the driver's side near the engine valve cover, toward the back of the engine compartment. The dipstick cap should be a darkish-brown color. The procedure to check is like most cars, trans warm, engine on, idling in park.

if its like my 01, its next to the Oil plug/cap , i would recommend removing the engine cover(2 10mm screws located ontop) but it is not needed, it will just be easier to spot and to put back in

*took the photo from another post, but you'll see the cap

also to check the level, i was pretty sure the car had to be drive? make sure to set the e-brake. (i may be wrong though, someone chime in?)

I'm not sure what Central American countries have to do with transmission fluid, but ok...

lesson learned on proof reading posts. Sorry about that. Spell check can really screw things up. What I meant though is the dipstick is the filler tube so it’s frustrating trying to figure out how much to add. And the main issue is where is all the fluid going?
