Asking input from members who have some simple DIY I can attempt to maintain my '01 ML with 135K. I just changed the cabin / ac filter so that should tell you the level of comfort / expertise I have (probably a 2 out of a 10).
With said any recommendations on other simple DIY? I was thinking the next one for me is the air filter...
Mr. Yellow... what level of tools do you own? Can you do an oil change? I would say try that next as the LS is probably the easiest vehicle to do an oil change on. If you can lift the front end up. Brakes are easy too, if you have the appropriate tools. Spark plugs are straight forward once the coil packs come out.
I'm planning to add a k&n, change the cabin ac filter, replace the pos ML sub and possibly the speakers, and thats probably about it. Anything else and i just cant be bothered anymore. Even an oil change, easy as it may be, id rather just pay to have done as I don't have a garage and my time is worth more to me then getting all dirty.

Okay... it takes me about 20 min from time I get into my garage to back into house to clean up. Unless the shop you go to is next to your house... you probably use more time to drive to the shop than change the oil in your LS. Also, how much you waiting on it? Dealer is easily 30-40 min... and I surely hope you're not going to the 10-min. Quik lube place.

If I had a garage my attitude would be a lot different, but I don't. For things I don't want to do myself, I'll only take my car to a mechanic I've been going to for 20 years and usually try to get a few things done at the same time and just leave the car with them overnight. I have 2 other cars too so I don't ever actually need any of my cars so I just drop it off and pick it back up at my convenience. I do however need to find a decent indy shop in S. Jersey. Right now, all my car needs is the few items I mentioned and I'll do that myself.
