It's on the hood.
I'm not concerned about the looks as one can hardly see it. These are tiny spots, I'm just afraid that it will get worse if untreated.

This is not clear coat failure. It is some type of contamination that ate through. Ask ford or chevy about clear coat failure.

Now this is some good news! I started losing my faith in Lexus. It's a 2004 and even my old 96 Camry that was never washed or waxed and parked in the sun near the ocean all day has no problems with the paint.

the problem with ford and chevy paint failure was defective primer causing the paint to come off.

Not sure what color it is, but 202 black does not have a clear cote. It looks to me like hard water contamination. Is it parked underground in a parking garage? Try LimeAway. It will get rid of stains.

The primer was one problem, the clear was another.
IF the primer was bad big flakes of paint would come off at a time leaving a grey spot exposed. Like this.http://www.myfordpaintpeels.com/index_files/Page387.htm

While with the clear problem the surface turns chalky white with bubbles and then just basicly turns to dust and blows away or gets washed off.

Im more towards the D.C. area. Yeah that zinc-chromate stuff is probably similar to the stuff called E-coat which can be grey ,tan or an army green in color.
The factory submerges the entire body of a vehicle and then sends an electric charge through the body of the vehicle to cause a reaction between the bare metal and the primer and it is drawn into the cracks and crevasse. It is supposed to help with corrosion protection.

It's Flint Mica 01E0.
And LimeAway, are you sure about that? It's some pretty powerful stuff
