Default Need a new battery

Has anyone replaced the Lexus battery with another type? Also, are higher CCA better and will it have any affect on the alternator?

My Lexus dealer sells the OEM Lexus battery for $120. It includes a 2-year free replacement and an 81 month prorated warranty.

Don't know quite how you beat that, as I never touch the battery. When battery goes an indication of being weak I take it to the dealer. If it goes dead, AAA comes and gives me a boost and I drive to the dealer. The dealer always checks the full system out and I go on my way. Here in the desert, a battery will hardly ever last over 2 years.

Yes, I replaced mine with a battery from Sam's club for $70. Warranty. Free installation. You can replace with a similar CCA. Higher than factory CCA will not hurt (or really help), anything except(possibly) your wallet. The alternator does not care what CCA you have installed. Since most auto batteries come from just several large manufacturers, the only thing different, in most cases, is the label. If you prefer "Lexus" stamped on your battery, go to the dealer. Only you will know the difference.

Since you're in CA, I'm sure you can find a Costco around you. The Kirkland battery is about $65-70 out the door (after tax/core) and it carries a 3 year full replacement and 84 (or was it 100?) months prorate warranty. As mentioned, there are only a few main manufacturers for batteries. The Kirkland battery is under Johnson Control, which makes Diehard, Interstate, Optima, etc also.

Where ever you get it, make sure you get a fresh battery - manufactured within the past 6 months. within 2 months even better. Once the battery acid goes in and it sits on the shelf without being used, the potential life of the battery is literally being chipped away at little by little.

Default Lesson learned

I replaced mine with a Red Optima - bad plan. If you use Optima you must get the yellow-deap cycle (died with just vacuuming out the car -reserve capacity is what counts on these cars, most replacement are only 100ah -and the originals were 125). I now have a Maxx Life from Walmart (only 100ah). Typically Costco has the best deal on batteries but often do not have the size for Lexus and Toyota.

I found that same issue at Walmart... they didn't have a battery that fits the specs for my SC or LS. I ended up buying one from Interstate ($115.00)

I have 2005 ls430 and it still has the original battery. Dealer has tested it twice and says it is strong as new. I never had a battery last this long in any vehicle I have owned. Maybe it is because I turn off lights when I park and don't leave them on to go off by themselves. The only thing on when car starts is running lights and stereo. Anyone else had this experience with factory original battery?

When you say 'type' do you mean brand? If so, I replaced my 2 year old 'Lexus' brand battery with one of the Walmart Maxx brand (Costco didn't carry the exact size/type) after the following problem:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...ests-fine.html

Was disappointed that my Lexus dealer didn't replace mine but they said that since it tests fine, there's no reimbursement they can get from Lexus corporate and since I bought the car from a private party, even a 'goodwill' adjustment wasn't offered - unlike the old days (90's) when it would have been replaced gratis.

There's really only a few battery manufacturers left in today's current market with rebranding commonplace. Since replacing mine, I've had nary a problem.
