Maybe low ATF? The tranny on my wife's LX (about a week after an ATF change w/ Toyota T-IV at the dealer) wouldn't shift out of 3rd to D after driving in 3 downhill for a while. Turning off the engine and restarting got it unstuck. The dealer checked the fluid levels, ran a full diagnostic, but found nothing. So far, after 3K mi of driving, it hasn't reoccurred. Car is at 93K mi, 5spd tranny, ATF changes by the dealer every 30K mi.
