Yeah. Sounds like the TPS.

You need a cover letter on all TPS reports. You never got the memo?

How did it work out? Any other problems?

Same exact problem here with my 01 LS430 with 107K. I'm going the techron route first. If all else fails I will try the throttle position sensor. By the way...how much is the part? Is there a way to check if it's faulty by hooking the car to read any codes? Thanks all.

The TPS is only $70 from Sewell. I think that a shop can hook up cables to it to test it.

Thanks Boomer01. I didn't think anything from Lexus was $70! It's definitely worth a shot. If that fails, I guess the MAF will have to be looked into.

My 03 has 137K miles on it. I noticed a slight hesitation from a stop. It was not nearly as dramatic as the OP as it only happens from a start or a slow roll. I was not getting any codes thrown. I changed the MAF and my problems stopped. My independent Lexus mechanic said the MAF was probably starting to go bad, just not bad enough to throw a code yet.

I bought the MAF off of Amazon. It was 85 shipped. Its not OEM but works just fine. Normally I am strictly an OEM guy because they make the best parts. However, I didn't feel it was necessary in this instance.

I spoke with a local Lexus Tech that I befriended and explained the hesitation issue. He asked me if any codes were being thrown. Once I told him no, he said that most of the issues with hesitation on our cars are usually resolved by cleaning the MAF. He said that if the MAF was faulty it would more than likely throw a code. If my problem persists, I will bring it to Lexus as this guy has always resolved any problem I have had at a minimum expense. I believe they charge a $99 diagnostic fee, but since I only use this same tech, he won't take me over the coals for something I don't need. I'd rather have Lexus fool around with the Maf than myself or my local mechanic. I don't want to end up with a car that doesn't run at all. He told me he might be able to check the TPS as well, but they don't usually go bad.

It kills me how some dealers will replace huge expensive systems first, rather than small part, and if that isn't it, then escalate up.. the coil pack or ignition issues would have thrown a code, while tps malfunction usually doesn't. So what are you down? Almost 1.5k?
