Default upper engine covers

Has anyone ever thought about removing the upper plastic engine covers from their LS? I'm talking about the plastic covers over the engine and on both sides of the engine bay. Seems to me these covers are basically useless. The plastic covers seemed to have been developed and introduced in the last 10-15 years and seem to me to be in the way and serve only a decorative function. Can I remove the top plastic covers and store them so that I have can make easy visual inspection of my engine and engine bay and have easy access to the actual working mechanical systems on my car? You know like a normal car built in the 60s : )

Yes you can. I removed mine cause I was gonna go something with the covers but I seem to misplace them. They are for asthetics only and serve no real purpose other than that.

What gets me is the placement of the coolant reservoir under the front air duct. I like to pop the hood and do a visual on all the fluids and this makes it a PITA...
