Does the 2001 LS 430 have a change oil light that lights up every 3K-5K miles?

Does it detect when I need to change the oil?

Yes, but it lights up based on miles. IIRC, the light will intermittently flash upon engine startup after 5K mi, then at 7.5K mi, it'll stay on all the time.

 

You can set the warning to alert you at whatever mileage you want to set it at.

 

Just to clear things up here, there are two systems in place in which Jim and Jay reference before me.

One is the mandatory "maintenance message" on the instrumental cluster which comes on every 5K or so. The other is an elective display on the navigation system which you can set to alerts you by date or miles of the oil change intervals, as well as many other maintenance items under the maintenance tab of the navi.
