Default Adding OEM Nav to Non-Nav Car

Hey All:

My Dad has an 04 LS430 w/o Nav and w/o ML, he does have the 'Premium Lexus system'.

I have been a 12v installer for 5 years now, so the labor, and the know how are taken care of.

I am curious though, has anyone taken a non-nav car and put Nav in it? How well did that work out? I assume most of it would be plug and play as both the premium system and the ML system us a digital amp turn on (tx and rx) as well as low level inputs. But has anyone done this/attempted this, how well did it work out? Feedback would be appreciated.

Also, please don't suggest to put in an aftermarket double din NAV, for my dad thats not really an option.

Thanks All!

Hey Garrett,

Welcome to Clublexus first and foremost.

I've done some reading about this more so in the GS forum, where its actually a bit easier, and realized the hardest part was gathering all the bits and pieces to make it work. The Nav equipped models have a different wiring harness to additional inputs and senors not found in non-nav models. So its not a plug and play by any means.

The exact details for the task escape me as i looked into this about 5 years ago when i had a non-navi LS400, but to give you some prospective, here is a nav retrofitted into a non-nav GS:

Hope this helps.

Personally my wife has a "Lexus" Nav system in her GX470 and I hate it.
I have a Magellan aftermarket in my 2000 ls400 and it is way better, plus you can use it while you are driving without having to override it.
I had the aftermarket hard wired with a mount.

I'm sure you can get a used NAV system and all the compenents out of a wrecked LS and put it in.
