Dealer says I am at 6mm front and rear - suggests we will need to do front / rear brakes at next (60K) service - wants $800 to do the brakes. That (plus the pictures in this thread) was my motivation to order parts from irontoad. Now just need to get up the nerve to replace the pads.

removing sensor
1. easiest is to replace the sensor so you have a sensor again, but you can "trick the system" by soldering or tieing the contacts together and then just not install the sensor back. Hang it (twist tied) to a none moving piece on the back.
2. most cars the fronts do wear out faster than the rears, so you could be able to replace just the fronts. You have to check the wear.
3. I've found Irontoad.com to always be competitive and most times better than others.

I replaced my front and rear brake pads yesterday with TRD items. They're still bedding in but the improvement from Bendix front and std toyota (sumitomo) rears is quite noticeable.
I'll also be fitting some goodridge braided lines next week.
Can supply part numbers for the lot if anyone's interested.
Direct from Japan the lot cost me ~$550AUD incl. freight. Money well spent IMHO.

I bought the lines direct from Japan,which is curious,as they're made in England...
The benefit of braided lines is improved pedal feel and reduced pressure loss due to minimised hose expansion when under pressure. They look pretty too,but I bought them for the performance improvement.

I have a followup - what's the torque setting for the wheel lugs? I have to go buy a torque wrench - any suggestions? I do have a compressor so I suppose I could borrow a air wrench from the local auto parts store. Any suggestions and thanks for this great writeup - my brake wear warning came on yesterday and I siad to myself as I was trying to get to sleep - F-that, I am not paying someone to do this.

2002 ls430 rotor replacement pics
after you take out the pads as turbo todd has shown the following steps for removing rotors are as follows. all u will need in addition to the tools already required is a 19mm socket.
