This morning when I turned the car on, the steering wheel made a squeak/grind noise. I turned the car off and it made the same type of noise when it retracted. It did not do it again when I turned ignition on and off a few times.
My 01 steering wheel makes a violent vibrating noise when it retracts to. If I remember correctly, it happened within the first year of owning the car.
I had the same noise issue. The dealer installed some sort of clip to hold the wires up or something like that. No more noise. Its eery quiet, you just see the steering retract with no noise at all. It was done under warranty.
LS430 owner's manual says it can be turned off by the dealer, via OBD port. I wonder if you could pull the connectors to the motor without throwing a check-engine light? (truck?)
Does anybody know how to stop it from retracting when you turn off the truck?
I hear there's a way, but would like to do it myself...
Thanks!
On the LS, generally the dealer needs to do it unless you have special equipment. I suspect it's the same on the LX, but you may try posting the question over there.
