Default 05 ls430 blown rear strut

Firestone wants to charge me close to $1200 for two new OEM struts for the rear including labor but I’m close to just getting aftermarket coilovers all around. Any advice or suggestions, I def want to stay as close to factory ride quality (DD) but wouldn’t mind a stanced look. lmk thanks

I use Firestone for lifetime alignments, and to be honest I would not trust them to do that job, even though it's not rocket surgery. It's a matter of the conditions the techs have to work in (work all backed up and hurried and pretty sure paid by job so churn and burn). What I will give them is they are in general courteous and I have used more than one. I would consult a Japanese indie for this. I have seen folks here replace with OE sport suspension parts which actually are a little cheaper too....and supposedly that's the time to replace the subwoofer too on the rear shock job...

p.s. normally I would replace rear shocks myself but really don't have plans to DIY this car nor my BMW (maxima is a piece of cake)

^^^ +1 I would seek out a Lexus / Import Independent shop for a second price / opinion. Search around in here a bit too, lots of options have been discussed.

That price is terrible, even for OEMs. You can get KYBs for $216 from Amazon and reuse or replace the mounts depending on age/mileage. It is a very easy job if you have tools and a desire to save money.
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...del-ls430.html Check the DIY writeup and see if its for you. If not, I would expect to pay around $800 or so to have this done with KYBs. Skip the OEMs...

Assuming you do not have air suspension, correct?

wow $800 is not cheap...I dunno what I would do. I do have access to a lift but I have to drive 2.5 hours....btw for whatever reason, I was not satisfied with KYBs on my Maxima....not even sure who is OEM, if it's Tokico or maybe it's KYB for the Nissan....I feel safe with original, that it shouldn't be worse than before. My Maxima's ride was never the same, there was an odd vibration on the rear deck when bumps were hit, an annoying frequency....and on the front I made the mistake of using quick struts. Because they were messed up out of the box, we ended up compressing the springs on one side anyway to use the old hardware, terrible...

I used the diy posted above to put in bc coilovers in my garage with basic tools.
very happy with the result. Because of the diy it cost me under $900 for all 4 installed, and they're put together so no need to disassemble the old ones etc.
the firmness is adjustable in addition to the height and I don't feel like I have had to make a noticeable sacrifice to ride quality to get the car to sit a little more aggressively. If i had to do it again i would!
