Default Ignition Key Case

I have recently noticed a small crack in the plastic case for my master key. I contacted my local dealer and was told the cost for the plastic case for the key will cost me over $130. Does anyone know of a cheaper way to obtain this plastic case/key?

Which side of the plastic case?

FYI: you can get the entire key for close $130 with new remote adn blade.

If you chipped the side with the Lexus logo, you can replace that part alone for under $10.

It is actually the side with the buttons. Every time I start the car, I can feel the key starting to seperate. Therefore I start the car very carefully.

The dealer told me for a key with remote, it would cost me almost $300. Where can I get one for $130. Anywhere in N.Y.?

http://www.lexus-parts.com/parts_detail.asp?id=50638

use code: 909RK

It will bring it down to $131. They will cut the key for you for no charge.

You can email and ask them if they would sell you just the shell, and tell them you're from clublexus.

Just wondering, is it possible to crazy glue the cracked section together? There have been times, not for cars per se, but broken door hinges, etc. that I was searching for replacements for but ended up discovering that the use of a permanent glue fine brush was able to fix satisfactorily (able to be used for months and years after). I've also used hardening putty/caulking materials.

Just a crazy thought, naturally it's more probable that you get a new key case....good luck. Perhaps also look at eBay?

Mine broke just a week ago, I bought one from the dealer for $68... I was upset to see later that you can get one on ebay for about $17, and then have the key cut.

The eBay ones are cheap including the blades (in quality). Never look back on an OEM purchase.

Thank you Grand_LS 4 for the eBay advice, almost bought one "today!"

What about this one http://www.lextasy.com/Lexus-Key-Replacement.htm ? or this one http://www.lextasy.com/lexus-keycase-transponder.htm Good quality?

If we buy these, where do we go to have the keys cut? Lexus dealers only? how much do they charge if you bring your own blank key?

Mine just broke too. Now I'm using the valet key to start the car and the broken key (scotch-taped) to unlock the doors!

I broke the other one earlier and ordered it through a dealer for $84. But it was covered under the CPO program.

Which dealer did you order one from for only $86? Is it a master key with remote?

Are you referring to drdarell's $68 or my $84 ? Probably $68 huh...

Anyway... I ordered mine thru Tri-County Lexus in NJ, $84 is for the master key shell only, use existing remote.

Thanks for the info. The dealer out here in LI wants almost $200 for just the shell!!! Can you believe that. I guess I'm going to have to take a trip to Jersey, the next time I'm in manhattan.

Those look very similar to the eBay ones, I'd refrain from those personally. You can tell the quality of the plastic by looking at it closely.

Might get a deal from Darrel at Sewell... (they are the guys running lexus-parts.com)

I remember I got a non-remote master CUT according to my VIN, for $28bucks. OEM with Lexus logo and all, so I'm sure they would beat anyones prices.

Does that go for the wallet key as well? And the key still has to be program to the vehicle also? Which, know how the dealer out hear in LI is, they probably charge me over $100 just to program key(s).
