Hacking Navigation
I know this subject has been covered quite well; however, I don't seem to get any of the screens that have been described (no dvd...and no volume screen that looks like the one on YouTube). I have 2001 LS430 (version 2/3?) with a newly installed version 7.1 North America map. Does anybody have directions for 'hack?' Thanks.

You have a gen3, which is different from a gen4, thats why the youtube video is not working.
Here is what you do to override the gen3:
This can be done at anytime, but its better to do it when you first start the car, as you need that I AGREE screen.
While the I agree screen is showing, press the following
1. Top most LEFT corner
2.Lower most LEFT corner
3.Top most LEFT corner AGAIN.
4. Lower most LEFT corner AGAIN
5. Then the RIGHT most Low Corner.
I know theres no buttons to press, just make sure you press at the very edges of the screen.
A secrete menu will pop up, then press and hold OVERRIDE till it clicks/highlights.
Then press MENU, then go back into the language settings, and hit the I AGREE button once again.
Your done.
IF you happen to be driving, and decided to activate the override, just click on MENU, then language. setting, and start from step number one.

Well, unfortunately that didn't work. Don't know what the problem is but when you go to lower right (last move) no matter how careful you are you hit the "I Agree" button. Doesn't seem to work...unless I'm missing something.

i really want to see if the 7.1version has my brothers house, and a few little towns around him... but i'd hate to drop the money and then find out that i have to wait till next year.
Anyone in the D.C. area has the 7.1 update on a gen 2/3?
btw this is how mine looks like:
its A, B, A, B, C.

For Gen. 2/3 Users...this is how I made it happen: Okay...this is how to hack (I got it!) the 2001 LS430 Nav....press Menu then select System Options.....when you get to that screen, press upper left, lower left, upper left, lower left then lower right....you will get the tech screen. Cannot do this from the "I agree" screen....must press menu then go to System Options (icon on lower right of screen). I'm using version 7.1.

The 02-03 have different navigation software. The buttons are black, compared to the lighter colored buttons in the 01. I suppose there are some more differences, but that is what I know just from looking at brochures.

Anyone selling a navigation CD please PM me. I have an 02 LS430 and I believe it's a gen3. I am interested in purchasing one that will still enable me to use the override feature. Thanks.

Take a look at Ebay, that's where I bought my 2004 disc. It was pretty cheap (don't remember exact price though).
Keep in mind though, using a newer disc will perform a non-reversible update (meaning you can't use your old disk anymore).

I was always wonderin something else here about a "hack" for the nav system.
Is there away with some type of hack to make the 01 system have the options and menus like an 06 ? Maybe take a disc from a newer car, copy some files from a 01 disc, and get it to update the firmware to the newer version. I'm sure someone must of attempted something like this...
Or could someone just pull out the 01 nav system and DVD drive from the trunk and just replace it with a set from a 05/06 to get the new features, bluetooth, etc. If I got the chance to get the pair, would it just plug right in, or is the harnesses different ?
This is what I am talking about for a "hack". I would still like to be able to use all the features wile driving but, with a newer version of the nav system if possable.
