Default 10.5" Rear possible?

Question in the title, is a 10.5" rear possible, with no modifications?

I'm looking to go 20x8.5F and 20x10.5R BBS LM1's.

They'll fit....but u need to trim off ur rear wheelwells.
I ran 20x10 +30. I think u can fit 20x10.5 +40 or higher.

Yeah I know 10's are easy, I want that 10.5 though

Dang, I gotta trim? How hard would that be on the LS430? I haven't really taken a look at it.

I'll have to find the offsets of the wheels.

It's not that hard to trim off the wheelwells, but gotta do it correctly and do it clean.

What kind of tires & specs do u have in mind. U won't be able to fit fat ones like the S-03 or Michelins.

The first thing you can do to give some more clearance is to remove the black trim ring around the wheel opening. Then the next is to re-position the upper mount for the lower side molding that's located inside the fender well just aft of the door sill (remove the screw, bend the mount forward, then replace the screw with a tiny stainless steel bolt, washers, and lock nut -- sounds more serious than it is, but you'll see what's needed if you experience tire rubbing rubbing there -- but this part will only be necessary if you run larger-than-stock diameter tires). These two mods (trim rings and repositioning of the mounts) gave me enough clearance that I didn't have to trim the fender lip. I have 9.5" x 19" wheels, but I selected an offset that I knew would positon the wheel somewhat outboard, plus taller sidewall tires to preserve ride quality. It's probably about the same positioning as you'd have with lower profile 20s on wider, higher-offset wheels. Let me know if you would like some photos of the areas in detail.

Photos would be excellent, not just for me but anyone else who is thinking about going wide wheeled.

ATSOU - I don't have the offsets on me, I wish I did, mainly because these wheels aren't on Tirerack.com or anything, I'm kinda going to be ordering them blindly if I can find out if 10.5's can be made to fit the car or not.

As far as tires go, I think I'm going to go for the stretched VIP look and run what -- 255's in the rear and 245's in the front?

Yeah might as well, I'm running 225's all around right now anyways.

But I still need to get the rear fittament issues worked on.

The Fabulous Demo car has 10.5 in the rear, so I think it's possible with some with fender modifications.

Here's a shot showing the absence of the black trim ring. In person it isn't noticeable at all (certainly not in a bad way, IMO). I'll try to shoot the re-worked trim mounting point tonight if I can remember. However, if you go with low profile 20s, you might not need to revise the trim mount. I went with larger diameter tires to preserve the ride quality -- 275/40/19 = 27.66".

That sure is a fat tire.
I don't think I'm that concerned with ride quality, the air suspension is already soft enough as it is.

In my view the LS is such a large, flat-sided car that it needs a fat tire to look complete, particularly when you go with a more performance oriented wheel instead of the VIP look. In person, the 275s don't look overly huge at all, IMO. But of course that type of thing is completely subjective, as is my selection of non-VIP wheels for a car of this type.

Regarding the ride quality, you will definitely notice a difference when you switch to a performance-oriented low-profile tire even if you stay with the factory suspension (even the air suspension). I ran the new tires and wheels on the stock suspension for a couple months while I was waiting on the coilovers to arrive. It DEFINITELY made the ride "harsher" though not harsh compared to "lesser cars."

EDIT: I reached around my son's Peg Perego Gator this morning and snapped a couple of quick photos on my way out of the garage (photos of the re-positioned trim mount) but now that I downloaded them I see that the camera didn't auto-focus properly. I'll try to shoot some clear ones this weekend and post 'em up on Monday.
