Changed Transmission Fluid
Well, stoped by Toyota yesterday to get 5 qtrs or T-IV trans fluid. Anyway got home, dressed into my garage cloth and jacked up the driver side to get at the bolt. Unscrewed and drain the trans fluid. Lowered the car down to let it all out. Approximately 3 1/2 qtrs came out. I didn't change my Drain Crush Wash but instead used a Teflon tape and screwed it back on. Lowered the car and used my long thin funnel to add 3 1/2 qtrs of T-IV back. This was by far the longest and slowest process. I would have prefered to pump the damn oil in if given the choice. Took about 45mins to just fill the oil back in. I will check the level after work to see where it is and once i get home i will check it again.
Good Job !
Yep, it takes a while to get the fluid back down the little tube. But you can go to dinner on the cash you saved by doing yourself. And you did it right.
Next time, clean off all the teflon tape and reinstall plain with only the aluminum seal washer. You don't want any of the tape migrating into the transmission valving.
As you stated, check it several times prior to adding additional fluid, just to be sure.
And as a gentle reminder, step through the P-1 prior to checking in park, with the engine idling; hot and cold. A little under is better than a little over on the dipstick.
