window tinting on LS q's
guys,
I have LS430 Black/Beige and am thinking on tinting the windows, thus I'd like your opinion on: 1. what kind of tint (brand/type) should I use so that there's no radio reception interference caused by the tinting? 2. anyone here lives in Oregon and knows what % of tint level is still legal? thanks |
for the first question :
as long as its not metallic tint, then the film will not affect the car's navigation system. If you want to spend more money, about double the prices than regular tint, you can get high-end ceramic tint, which is supposed to shield heat better. the the second question, refer to this PDF that has the law percentages . http://www.solargard.com/Assets/PDFs...nting_Laws.pdf |
thanks timoc42; just wondering what brand would it be for the ceramic tint you referred to?
is it solarguard, 3M, V-kool, or something else? thanks |
I know the Huber-Optik is ceramic. That is something that Im planning on doing myself, but I was quoted $450, while I was quoted $150 for a regular film, so I'm still thinking about it.
I dont think Solar Gard is ceramic, but is one of the better films in the market. V-Kool, I am not sure whether it is ceramic or not, but I would say its heat protection properties are as good, if not better than Huber-Optik. All my dad's is tinted with V-Kool and it works very very well...  I've been trying to find a dealer in NYC, but no one has it. But if you can get V-Kool, get it. |
that's exactly what I heard from a local installer here (the ceramic tint). They say it's more expensive than regular films (which they quoted around $240).
based on what the installer told me, V-Kool is also metal-based. The installer also has carbon-based tint which will not interfere with the radio reception. with the V-Kool, did your Dad get any interference on the NAV or Radio? I am still waiting for the ceramic price quote... |
no, i have not seen any interference on the radio / electronic systems on his car with the v-kool.
