Default 2004 taillight on a 2001-2003

Slap me around but I'm just not convinced yet!! I did a forum search and no one has actually had them in their hand and tried to put them on. Yes the inner part on the trunk is smaller but the outer part looks exactly the same. Look at these pics and tell me what's so different ? I know the new on is LED and you'd have to wire them a certain way but it can be done. It just doesn't make sense to spend $900+ on aftermarket. There is one on ebay currently..
the address is long so you may have to join them. I may buy it..

The 1st pic is the 2004 factory light and the 2nd is the 2001 from Fabulous for $900

Can you point out the difference!!!

The 3rd pic is the back of the 2004 light with led harness

I'm not sure they will fit...but then again it's 40 bucks.

here is a reply from the Sewell Lexus parts manager....
It looks like it can be done

Well Jon, the shape is almost identical. One of the trunk panels didn't fit as flush to the light as we would have liked although it would have worked okay. Of course, the difference is with the LED lights and the clear lens instead of yellow. Everything seems to mount okay with the exception of the wiring harness. The newer style light has a wiring pigtail that is square with 4 leads whereas the older light has a wiring pigtail that is more rectangular and has 6 leads (well, only 5 that were used).

With this said, unless there were to be some modifications to the pigtail, then this cannot be done. On another note, if the wiring harness from the lamp is directly spliced into the car wiring harness, then there lies the possibility of the lamp failure sensor picking up a false reading and believing there is a tail lamp out, thus lighting up on your dash board.

Yes, if it were my LS430, I would attempt this change. I really do not like the yellow in the previous version light. I believe this can be done with a little patience and understanding given the situation.
