2004 on a 2001?

will the OUTER tail light piece on a 2004 Lexus LS430 fit on a 2001 Lexus LS430? Are the mounts the same? the wiring? I know the inner pieces don't fit, but the outer pieces are completely different. Anything would help. Thanks in advance.

Yes this needs to be resolved !!!! The amber strip on an 2001-2003 is out of place. Here are pics. It is pretty damn close. Does anyone have a hook up at a lexus dealership? Someone who will let you try out a taillight lense to see if it will fit? Someone has gotta get out the measuring tape and find out.!!

It will fit, i have seen it done, but keep in mind, you will need a rear bumper, and a complete rear trunk..to match it exact w/ the 2004 model.... in other words u can convert a 2001-03 rear to a 2004-05 model

JLAWS 04-04-05 09:15 AM

I don't think we want to go that far. All we want to do is replace that outer part of the tail light that is an ugly amber color. The light strip on the trunk is clear . I willprobably go to the dealer one day and ask the parts dept to put the 2003 and 2004 lense side by side to see if it the same shape. It looks so close from pics I've posted.

damn, from the pics i couldn't imagine that the bumper and the trunk lid have to be changed in order to get the taillight to fit @_@

Try the GS Forum

When I had my 98 GS400, I watched those forums a lot. I can remember some guys modifying the lense using a dremmel tool and then cutting out the amber part of the lense. I'd like to think the same can be done with the LS. Look around there and see what they did...

Just a suggestion.

European Tail Light?

I've seen "European" tail light assemblies advertised for older Lexii. Anybody know whether the 2001-03 gen had a different lens for the European market? How about Australia, etc.?

Why not just buy the clear/red tails from Fabulous?

about cutting the taillights like that for the 2gs, you have to be careful. it depends on how the taillights are constructed.

the 98-00 gs taillights, yes you can just bake or boil the lens and pry it open, and then you can take out the amber piece easy. however for the 01-05 taillights, the amber piece is molded together with the red piece. it's a one piece thing, so there is no way you can take it out. that's why 01+ taillights are out of luck, unless you pay over 1200 for junction produce ones.

so it depend son how the ls430 taillights are made. even if they are separate piece, i can guarantee it's never easy to pry open the taillight aseembly. it's put on very very tight

Good point. I'm not sure either, whoever tried it with the GS had to take one for the team  , so, who's willing to give it a shot? ;)

hahaa, if someone is brave enough to "donate" one side of the taillight then we can try, otherwise, no one will ever know :)

Hey I sent a PM to "gewe21 " the owner of that immaculate silver LS430 with the clear tail lights. Here is what he said below. Maybe we can get a group buy going to get the lights from "GS4Will" for a good price?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I bought them from a fellow ClubLexus member GS4Will. The price quoted was very similar to website price of Fabulous Japan, I don't remember exactly. It was either $600 or $700, with around 1 month of turnaround time.
A couple words: fit and finish is good. The white part of the turn signal is not bright white, but rather it has a slight amber tint to match the "trunk" portion of your taillights. That price is only for the outer part of your taillights, the trunk section is unchanged / stock.
You can have them all in bright white like '04 model by purchasing Veilside instead of Fabulous, but $1400 for taillights ? Just sound plain stupid too me. BUt again, it's just me. Hope this helps.

this post is hilarious because its a very elaborate way of saying what I and others already said. they dont fit. furthermore there is something about the led lights that make it incompatible with pre 2004 cars.

ah gotcha, so the led is another problem, that makes sense

Hello,
I posted the used parts web site incorrectly try( www.car-part.com) Then type in 2002 Lexus LS430 rear tail light . Check it out ?
I was looking at my tail light today and I don't know if that surgery will work "opening the light and removing the amber part".

Thanks Mike
