Btw, and as a "Plan B", don't forget the ashtray itself easily pops out. Obviously not as functional a retrofit but nevertheless, gives you enough additional space for xome Blackberrys, Iphones, PDAs et al.

I know this is an old post but it rocks! Baron code worked perfectly and I plan on buying the ashtray replacement soon. Very cool, thanks!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but for people that have installed this, is there enough room for an Iphone to be inside and close still?

I am getting an 03 Monday and would like to install this. Thinking about running a USA Spec inside so that I can use my Iphone for Pandora to be played through the stereo. Don't want to route my phone into the glove box.

Yes there is room for an iphone in the replacement box. If you are gonna connect an iphone that's a great spot for it. I use an old ipod nano so for me the glove box is a better mounting point as it just stays in the car full time. It would not be that difficult to run the interface cable into the side or back of the bin although you will have to get creative to fill or disguise the fairly big hole passing the plug thru would create. Probably best to come in from the back so its not too noticeable. Alternately could cut the cable, pass just the wire thru a small hole and then splice the wire back together where it would be hidden under console. When installing the interface unit and cables be sure to use some zip ties and some foam so everything is neatly secured and padded so you don't introduce any rattles or interfere with moving parts in the radio stack or console area.

That does look like a very nice interface. I don't know where it would go thought....Not sure what I am going to do regarding the cable. I don't want to drill a huge hole in the new, very expensive, cubby hole. I may end up routing it into the center console.

I decided to order one of these console boxes. I used the discount code Baron and when I did, it knocked the price to 118 shipped. Not sure why. The subtotal was 188 before the code.

Maybe they discounted the price permenently. I paid $185.xx earlier this year with the code. Original price was $250+

Sorry bout that. Guess I got lucky! Mine arrived this week. Wood doesn't match so I guess I will be switching out the door from the ash tray. Also waiting on the USA SPEC to arrive before changing out.

Default Is it still available?

Sewell tells me it is no longer available. Part number in computer but no part available. Likely never.

Thoughts?

Unfortunately at some point these kind of parts run out on discontinued models. Dealers sell from stock at local regional distribution warehouse and when inventory is gone, its gone for good. Maybe try some other Lexus dealers in other areas of the country that have an online presence.

As someone who does a lot of parts fabrication, I'm curious whether it's reasonable to think about building this part myself. It would be great if someone could post a few pictures of the ashtray assembly they removed, or even better, if someone would be willing to lend me theirs so I determine dimensions and mount points. I could remove mine, but don't want to drive around with a hole in my console.

that's a clean setup but you're right, a bit pricey. Hope you get your moneys worth in the long run.
