Default A new proud owner

Just purchased my wife a 2001 LS430 with Nav. I hate to say it -- but I almost feel unworthy driving a car this nice. Her last car was an Acura Legend -- a nice car -- but in no way compares to the Lexus.

I got the car off lease and as a result received only one key. I've searched and found a Lexus dealer in Texas that sells the Valet key for $50 -- compares to $75 at my local Atlanta dealer. Only question -- how do I program the thing?

Hope to keep in touch and learn a great deal from all of you seasoned Lexus owners!

Glad to be aboard.

Congrats on your purchase and welcome! You could always take it in to the dealer to get it programmed, or you could try the following:

To add duplicate key:

1. Simultaneously depress and release brake and accelerator pedals 1 time.
2. Insert existing master key into ignition.
3. Within 15 seconds depress and release accelerator pedal 5 times.
4. Within 20 seconds depress and release the brake pedal 6 times and remove key.
5. Within 10 seconds insert new key into ignition.
6. Within 10 seconds depress and release the accelerator pedal 1 time.
7. After 80 seconds new key is registered and security light goes off.
8. Remove new key and depress and release brake pedal 1 time.

I remember saving these steps off of a past (old) thread on how to program keys yourself. It might/might not work because your LS is a '01, but it's worth a try I guess? Worse comes to worse, just take it in to the dealer.

Welcome! BTW one of our venders here on Club Lexus has a special price on lexus keys! I ordered from him a year ago and it was a very fast delivery! The price is great so you may want to look into that. Here is the link to the thread!
