Where's the Compass?
 

OK, so I went from an '03 LS to an '04 LS. Where's the compass??? The '03 without Nav had a digital compass in the "display two" that toggled between outdoor temperature and digital compass. It would show in one or two letters which way you are driving.

The '04 has Nav. There is no "toggle" on the "display two"...only "off" and "outdoor temperature". So where did the compass go? I hope you guys are not going to tell me that the tiny thing in the upper left corner of the NAV is the compass. It has no markings! While I am not a total moron and can figure out what direction I am going because the compass is pointing north, it certainly isn't as clear as having "SE" or "NW" right in front of you. You really have to THINK about it. And while I am not against thinking, I just would expect Lexus to make this more user friendly.

Is the NAV mini-compass "it" or is there something I am missing??

I was looking myself but i have been to busy learning other things, like wipers, lights, low tire reset, power head rest, how to stop voice commands,and how to keep my foot out of it. It just storms and I have owned a lot of fast cars. Its just to much fun ha.

Is the low tire thingie an option? I don't think my car has it.

And I am still hoping someone knows where the compass is!

On the map screen, press the button that is just above the zoom in button (the (+) in the lower left). It should then show a few different buttons slide out. One of these is a compass mode.

Sorry Daryll40, you're right about the Nav car don't have compass. I think Lexus figured you already have the Nav so why do you need the compass.
The low tire pressure warning is standard on all 04 LS. The reset switch is located on the lower part of the dash( just above the gas pedal). If look on the plastic trim right by the gas pedal, you will see 2 switches, one for tire reset and another for smart key( option).

I still don't think my car has the low tire thingie. It's not even in the book, unless I missed it. My car was shipped at the end of October. Could it be that early ones didn't have it. Frankly I don't really care, as I check pressure twice per month, yet if it's standard I'd like to know about it!

I've got a 04 LS 430 Premium. My car has the tire pressure monitor. I also check my tires often and was a little disappointed in the system. It only tells you that it senses a low tire, but doesn't tell you which one. My neighbor has a Chrysler 300 and his monitor displays the pressure in pounds for each tire including the trunk. I wouldn't have Chrysler to have a better system than a LEXUS.

But what really disapointed me was we were driving in about 1inch of snow for about an hour when the monitor came on. I looked in the book and it said various factors like snow, tempatures under 32 degrees, very hot tempatures, and a number of other things could make it come on. You then have to go thru a procedure to reset it. In Chicago during the winter snow and/or cold temperatures are not unusual. If this is how the system works, it won't be very useful.

I'm going in for my 1000 mi check up next week and I will ask them to check this out.

Ok, so I found it! Yeah, it seems somewhat worthless except if one tires suddenly loses pressure. What would be better would be what you describe as the Chrysler system...that tells you the exact pressure in each tire, period. I also check pressures with a good gauge every two weeks so I am not overly concerned about this system.

I am liking the NAV system more and more as I am mastering the steep learning curve.

Low Tire
 

Low tire warning went on again today. Twice in the Last 2-3 weeks. Temp here in Chicago dropped from 48 to 37 from 11am to 2pm. I am going out to check air in tires again . 18's need 40 psi .I bet they are at 35. This could get old. maybe someone can tell Lexus now early in 04 model run?

After mine went on, I called the service department and told them what happened. They said since this is new they have no experience with it. Based on all the disclaimers in the owners manual about what could make this go on, either LEXUS better come up with a fix or I am going to ask them to disconnect it. Based on what the owners manual said, it seems like it may go on any time it is cold or you drive in snow.

I would have expected better in this type of a car, and it will be interesting to see what they do about it.
As I said in my earlier post, I am taking my car in in Monday for the 1,000 mile check up. So I will let you know what they say.

Right front tire down about 6-7 lbs. must be slow leak in pilot a/s after changing over? We'll see how it goes. Maybe not as bad as I thought.
