I don't think this has been asked before. 2004 LS430 Pioneer system non nav. I believe factory speakers are Front doors 2 ohm, Dash tweeters 6 ohm, Rear door 4 ohm and sub 2 ohm. I'm not concerned about the sub at this time. If I replace the head unit with Kenwood DMX908S, page 91 of install manual shows Speaker Impedance 4-8 ohm. In my mind, I should be able to keep the factory rear door speakers, replace the front door speakers with a good quality (focal performance 130as) set of component speakers. Now the front door speakers are 4 ohm, now my question is, since the kenwood install manual says speaker impedance 4-8 ohm. Can I "not install" the new focal tweeters but instead install the crossover and wire it to the factory 6 ohm tweeters?
I would bypass the factory amp and just run the speakers off the head unit. Then probably run the Sub Woofer with a small 2 ohm mono amp (Kenwood KAC-M3001 300 wattsRMSx1 @ 2 ohm
In my mind the factory 6 ohm tweeters should work according to the install manual. I am more than capable of installing the components but I lack the understanding of of how the system works together. I want to thank the experts in advance Not looking for a big system, just an old guy wanting a touch screen and back up camera and sirius xm that sounds very good to my old ears.
Nobody responded to my questions, here is an update now that it is finished. I tried using the tweeters in the dash but they sounded like crap. I ended up using some JL C2-600X coaxial up front. I put a Kenwood KAC-M3004 amp, leaving the rear door speakers for later. I left the factory woofer and added a Kenwood KAC-M3001 subwoofer amp
Added a Kenwood CMOS-740HD backup cam and a cheap Crux cub-15 camera in the grill for a forward camera. Also installed SiriusXM
Everything sounds amazing, this was by far the hardest head unit install I've ever attempted. I want to thank everyone that that has ever posted about the sound system on these cars. I searched and searched then searched some more. Here's a couple pics.
Very happy with the outcome but I would not want to do it again on an LS430 lol
Looks good, and I totally agree on the LS being somewhat of a pain to plan a decent system for. I went with Kenwood on most of my build too but I did a single X802-5 amp for everything. Just seemed simpler than running 2 amps for an average powered system.
And you probably didn’t get any replies because there’s really not too many people here that do full audio upgrades. You sure that sub and front speakers are 2 ohm? Sounds odd to me but I really don’t know for sure.
