Default Oil leaks

I just changed oil last week at some company known store. I drove about 300 miles on a trip and it leaked alot from the bottom and top of the engine. I used to change it at Walmart and trvel for years and no leaks. What could the have done to cuase this leaking. The milage now at 230k.

Do you know where the leak is coming from specifically? When fixing leaks and don't know where it's coming from, start from the top and work your way down while cleaning all old oil and debris after every job. If it's leaking from the top, it may be a valve cover gasket (most common). I would also look at your oil pan gasket. But with the milage being high it may be a multitude of things. Honestly, it's impossible to tell without seeing it for myself. But if you're not too confident in your mechanic abilities take it to the dealership or a trusted shop for a full inspection. Hope this helped.

Did they put more oil on the engine than in it? Ehats the dipstick look like? When the car is completely cool take 3-4 cans a brake clean and spray the oil off so you can see where it is coming from. After the brake clean has evaporated start the car and look to see where it's coming from.

It is leaking from the oil pan and both valve cover gaskets

Change the PCV valve. If it is not working properly oil will be forced out the weakest points.

Valve Cover gaskets are a very common leak on this engine, over time the gaskets get old and dried out and they need to be replaced with new OEM gaskets. The same story with the oil pan, the gaskets get old and dried out, and no longer seal correctly.

Another point here on my 2001. I was changing my oil with the 5 gallon sizes and pouring in quart containers for ease of pouring and next morning always topped to top of mark on dip stick. Had oil leaks for few oil changes. Changed my oil and put in exact amount from quarts and next morning dip stick is half way between marks and this is where it is supposed to be for my car as I was overfilling by filling to top mark. Now I have very little oil leak.

I checked the oil dip stick next morning after the oil change. It was topped to top of mark on dip stick. The engine stopped leaking. I drove it over 1500 miles continuously on the highway. Now it’s between the marks the oil level. What should i do no.

Was it leaking at all before they changed it?

If not, I would almost put money on them screwing something up with the oil filter if you haven't looked there yet. Not unheard of for the old filter gasket to get stuck to the engine, and when they screw the new one on, you end up with two gaskets that don't seal worth a damn.

Only way to know what level is supposed to be on dip stick is to do an oil change and put in exact amount and next morning look and that should be the max point on stick. Make sure if others change oil not to use dip stick as a fill guide and that you want it done by the quart only. That might be a problem as they fill from large drums normally. You probably need to do this yourself.

Default '05 LS430 Changing the oil pan gasket.

Oil leak:
What is the difficulty in changing the oil pan gasket, on a 2005 LS 430. Just had the valve covers done and they charged me $650. I'll never go back there.
My main problem is getting up on a lift to do the job. I may have to have an independent shop do it.

i think the oil pan gasket is even more challenging than the valve covers. Its a DIY job, but not an easy one. doing it without a lift would be tough

Lower oil pan is easy, don't need a lift.
