2002 LS430 ML - Only Tweeters Work
Hi all,
Apologies if this has been addressed elsewhere, but I have searched and couldn't find anyone posting about precisely the same problem I'm facing with my Mark Levinson-equipped 2002 LS430.
Anyhoo, all functions (AM/FM/CD/cassette/steering wheel and dash controls, nav, etc.) are working correctly, however I only get sound from the tweeters. I understand this may be caused by a myriad of reasons, but is anyone familiar with what the issue is likely to stem from? Would be cool to not have to spend a bunch of time and (potentially) cash to diagnose.
Thanks in advance and Happy New Year you tasteful car driving so-and-sos!

Mine was the exact same - only tweeters worked. I took the door cards off and the cone was completely separate from the rest of the speaker. It was pretty clear the speakers were blown. I hooked up a multimeter to the cable coming into the speaker and there was voltage that changed with the volume when I went up or down. It was an easy way to confirm it was that speakers.

My subwoofer was completely separated from the foam and still made a decent sound. If you take off 1 door panel you can test a speaker there. If the foam is rotten and separated just lightly put your hand on the speaker and turn up volume and if amp is working you will hear and feel. If you purchased the car this way it could be another amp was used and taken out and the connectors were not plugged back into the amp. Another thought just pull up cover over the subwoofer and do the same thing. That is the quickest time consuming test.

Did you re-foam, replace with OEM, or go aftermarket? I'm leaning toward the latter, lots of nice 8 ohm component sets under $200 per pair.
I tried to refoam the back ones but as I was doing it, the cones popped out and was the same as the front ones. Not great.
I can only find info on a Dayton sub for the parcel shelf—can you please point me in the right direction for model numbers and how to fit, etc.?
NM, found info for the front doors, still hunting for info on the rears. I'm sure I'll find it. Thanks for your help here.

Sorry for the silence. A lot going on so I forgot to reply.
Here's the sub I ordered. I was going for cheapest without being terrible quality. A lot of people recommended this one so I figured I'd try it. It sounds nice honestly. I ditched the speaker bracket from the old sub, drilled holes in the deck to match this new speakers, and mounted it that way. Make sure to put some rubber stripping or moulding under it so it's not metal on metal.

I couldn't find ANY info on the back door speakers. When I measured them, they were an odd size and I couldn't find anything to match. I bought these little 4" speakers and did my best to fit them in the brackets. These were definitely the most challenging because the bracket is oblong shaped and not a circle.
