tvd51,

I think that is a great idea. It may help some people new to the forums and I hope a moderator can copy and paste this into a new thread and make it a sticky.

I will be glad to get it started.

My LS -> 1991 LS400, 227,000+ miles

Replaced/repaired so far;

Mandatory repairs:
Timing belt, water pump, seals, idlers, etc. - about 750.00
Power Steering pump rebuilt - about 300.00
AC Compressor rebuilt, new dryer, evaporator, refill R12 - about 600.00
Rear main seal leak (after trying synthetic) - about 750.00
Oil dipstick gasket leak (looks like rear main seal leak) - about 50.00
Front wheel bearings - about 500.00 (just replaced today by VVTi )

Optional repairs :
LCD on A/C controller/colock - about 750.00 at dealer, 200-300 for DIY

Alright Guys, what did I miss,.......who else?

Thanks, GA400. Here's my turn:

91 LS400, 150K miles.

Major repairs done:
- power antenna
- sway bar bushings
- brake calipers
- timing belt
- drive belt
- alternator
- steering pump
- A/C compressor, clutch, conversion to R134
- spark plug wires
- heater control
- throttle position sensor
- EGR pipe
- one oxygen sensor
- idler
- EGR modulator
- 4 shocks
- front lower ball joints

Current problems (will fix when possible):
- rack & pinion steering (it's leaking)

- other oxygen sensors expect to fail any time.

NOTE: We need someone to compile the information. Any volunteer ?

190,000 miles or something like that. After much abuse, the locking mechanism stopped working. The seat belt does not work. BUT.........I love this car! I still get 18-20 miles to the gallon and it is hassle free!

I've done all of those except the Idler, heater, AC, and sway bar bushings.

The starter is a pain in the butt especially considering the fact you just blew you money away since u you could have changed it during the EGR pipe fix

Well, nobody knew it's the starter. Even now, it's still a theory.

My 1992 SC 400 just turned...........232,000.............and is still purring like a kitten. I know it's not an LS, but it has the same engine so I thought it would be OK to reply on this thread.

Christian: Did you replace the shocks and the A/C compressor 4 times ? This is unusual.

Wide LS: Is the idle up valve part of the power steering pump ? If it's a separate part, then where is it ? Did you replace all 4 oxygen sensors. Thanks.

tvd51, The Power Steering Pump is seperate from the Idle Up Valve. I'm not sure where the IUV is, but it's near the PS Pump. Yes I replaced all 4 oxygen sensors.

Hello tvd51,

yes those parts went out four times.

A/C 1. 210000km
2. 310000km
3. 340000km under warranty
4. 350000km under warranty ( The whole A/C system was changed and swichted to RC 134)
Now the A/C works perfect it is only loud as a compressor.

Shocks: 1. 50000km under warranty
2. 160000km car started to be really unstable at high speeds >200km/h
3. 270000km same problems as 2.
4. 350000km same problem as 2 and 3. springs, shocks and rollbars from 93 model were
installed, should have been installed in the first way. Car feels a lot improoved
now. The old suspension was really soft not really good for fast Autobahn
travelling, especialy under high load. 100000km with shocks is quiet normally
around here.

Chris: Thanks for the explanation.
I didn't know that high speed kills the shocks that fast. I replaced mine at 250000km and the old ones were still in fairly good shape.
