Default Cooling fan elimination mod.

I'd like to try this mod on my car, a 97 LS400.
I noticed that in the summer, the stock belt driven cooling fan eats up a lot of power when the fan clutch engages.
I'm thinking to remove the stock fan and replace it with 1 or 2 electric fans attached to the inside of the radiator.
The two problems that I anticipate are:
1 - finding the right aftermarket shroud with fans built in
2 - setting up the electric fans to turn on/off when coolant reaches the right temperature.

If anyone has any info on this please share it.

Thanks.

Get yourself a Summit Racing Catalog they have what you are looking for( you will have to adapt the parts to work on a Lex)....their web site is not very good but you can get their 800 number off the site to order a catalog .

I removed the main cooling fan on my LS. I immediately noticed a gain in hp. All I have are the two accessory cooling fans. I live in Arizona where the temp easily exceeds 110 and have had no problems and the accessory fans rarely kick in .

That's incredible!!
Have you ever been stuck in traffic?
I live in NY, where it rarely gets any hotter than 95.
Last summer my car began to overheat in traffic. I know that the fan is not the solution to all the problems, but still, I can imagine what would have happened if I did not have it.
Anyway, simply removing the stock fan and not replacing it with something else is not the solution for me.
As the mater of fact, I would advise you to either do what I am planning to do, or to put back your stock fan. If you ever get stuck in traffic for any period of time, your engine is toast!

Has anyone tried one of the lightweight flex type fans? The clutch is a reasonably heavy unit and with all that mass spinning, I would think lightening would help.
