Default Great Book Somewhat On LS400

There is a GREAT new book that I am reading. It's called "THE END OF DETROIT" by Micheline Maynard. It's about how the Japanese in general and Toyota (and somewhat Honda) in particular are eating the lunch of the the big 3. I highly recommend it for those of us with an interest in Lexus and in luxury cars in particular. It talks about how Lexus came to create the original LS400 and how the original ES250 actually helped to build the CAMRY franchise...it made Camry buyers feel they were getting a bargain (and still do). Great read...but sad for our auto industry which still doesn't get it. And even if they did, their "legacy" costs of health care and pensions for former workers makes them non-competitive in the long run.

Default End Of Detroit

I'm a new member with a '92 LS400 (101K miles) that is in excellent plus mechanical/cosmetic condition. Records show that all necessary maintenance was performed by the local Lexus dealer and this includes the timeing belt etc. The car runs perfect! When one of my co-workers asked me what year it was I responded it was a '92 with a 100K miles. He had a look of disbelief on his face that might of said it was ready for the junk heap. Since he owns two American mfg cars that's to be expected I guess. I also own a '94 Camray with 160K and it runs like a top. My brother has a '93 LS400 with 115K miles in excellent plus shape and he runs into the same reaction from friends/co-workers who own American cars, they just don't get it or understand that the American mfg cars are very poorly built compared to Toyota, Honda etc. One telling tale is the large number of souped up Japanese mfg vehicles driven by the younger generation. If Detroit hasn't seen the writeing on the wall they must be blind. Four Door
