Default 99 LS400 - Starting Issue

Combed through most of the starting issue threads. I’ve determined this can be either the battery, starter, alt, fuel pump, or security system. I’ve eliminated bad terminals or terminal wires. Those are all g2g. Take a look at the vid/Youtube link. I’m thinking it’s probably the battery. You can hear a “click” after the first attempt however it sounds like the battery isn’t strong enough to fully crank the starter. I’m thinking either 1) battery or 2) alternator. Let me know what you all think. Highly appreciate the knowledge I’m getting from this site. Never thought I would own a Lexus of all vehicles. I already want a 2nd LS400 as a separate project.

Sounds like the starter. Brushes wear, lose contact, no electricity.
I have the same problem with my 2000.
In certain weather (not always), she will either do what yours did, or not start at all until I turn the key back and forth (5-100 times).

Many thanks for the reply. Yeah... I was definitely hoping it wasn’t the starter haha. Listen to the sounds closer this morning there is some ticking come from on top of the engine/intake area. I’m now leaning towards starter too. I think I’d rather it be the alternator over pulling the intake. I’ve been looking for the best priced OEM starter before I drop it off at my mechanic’s shop. At least that’s one thing I won’t have to worry about in the future. HIGHLY appreciate the feedback!!

If it is the starter, you should get the best OEM you can find...also you can just wait until it dies completely. I have been working with this problem for 1.5 years

A year and a 1/2?? You’ve gotta be kidding me haha! You don’t get concerned about getting stranded? A buddy of mine.. his father.. (never) replaces anything until it completely dies.. ever. Cars or Harleys. He swears by that. I did consider that.. waiting it out some.. but still not sure..
